Where is FEN located?
FEN offices are in Bogota, Colombia.
Are the volunteer/interns remunerated?
Neither volunteers nor interns are remunerated by FEN
Do I have to speak another language to volunteer?
Spanish is necessary.
Do I have to submit my Curriculum Vitae?
Please attach your resume and your cover letter to your application.
The following ideas have to be found in the Application Essay:
- Introduction and objectives. The candidate describes his/her interests and motivations.
- Previous experiences. Pertinent description of past experiences: discuss your academic studies, internships, work experience, community service, life experiences that are relevant to Fundación Escuela Nueva.
- Talk about your specific goals, including what kind of career you want/have, as well as what disciplines you wish to focus on. Also, mention what professional goals you may have. Finally, explains how do your skills, knowledge of study and experience connect with Fundación Escuela Nueva. What interests you in Fundación Escuela Nueva and how do your interests line up with ours (FEN)?
Your cover letter has to be clear, concrete and concise, 1 or 2 pages.
How long do I have to volunteer?
We would like you to stay for a minimum period of 3 months. Typically we ask our volunteers to commit to a minimum of 4 hours per day (20 hours per week) to a maximum of 8 hours per day (40 hours per week) to make the most of the volunteer experience.
Do you have a minimum or maximum age for volunteers?
FEN requires that you are at least 18 years old (legal age in Colombia).
Will I receive academic credit for volunteering with FEN?
Be sure to check with your academic advisor to assess your eligibility for academic credit. Many of our past volunteers have received academic credit that they were able to apply to service-learning programs, internships, and/or independent study requirements.
Does FEN offer a certificate for volunteers?
Yes, after the volunteer has satisfactorily fulfilled the initial agreements with FEN in terms of time and products, the Organization gives her/him a certificate of the volunteering process. Please note that in the case of internships/practicums, this may vary depending on the requirements of the college.
If visiting from another country, is international experience required?
You don’t need any specific experience, but interest in Latin-America, especially on education issues, is desirable.
What types of volunteer projects are available?
Opportunities are offered in a variety of areas including social media and communications, project assistance, research assistance, fundraising, photography and design, and translations. You can find more details here: Volunteer Openings
Volunteers/interns have contributed to processes about entrepreneurship and financial education, project and knowledge management, peace education, cooperative learning, data processing and analysis, and fundraising, among many others.
